The ISEE Potomac Chapter Scholarship Committee deliberated on July 14, 2021 to review the applications and decide on the winners of the four $2,000 scholarships offered by our chapter. We had received five applications before the June 30, 2021 deadline. All of the applicants were very worthy individuals, making the selection process a very rewarding review for the whole committee.

We are pleased to announce that we have awarded the scholarships to the following outstanding individuals:

G. Alan Foster Scholarship – Awarded to Ashley Palmer of Hagerstown, Maryland, daughter of chapter member Joe Palmer. Ashley is attending Hagerstown Community College, where she is pursuing an associate degree majoring in Exercise and Science. Ashley has worked her way through her studies by waitressing, learning to drive a tractor for a farm job; and recently, partnering in a landscaping business. Ashley is passionate about her goal to be a Physical Therapist, in her own words: “I can’t think of a better way to help others who are hurting and physically injured…An opportunity to be an encouragement , to provide a smile, to lift someone’s spirit…and to assist with helping them regain strength, mobility, and independence.”.

Charles Greening Scholarship – Awarded to chapter member Ryan Walsh of Bear, Delaware. Ryan has been engaged in our industry for the past nine years since graduating from Pennsylvania College of Technology with a B.S. in Construction Management, and is currently a Divisional Superintendent for Maine Drilling and Blasting, Inc. He has been accepted into the MBA program at Southern New Hampshire University, concentrating in Finance. Ryan is dedicated to use his experience and knowledge gained in his work and studies to further his career into upper management where he hopes to “advance the standards, safety, and future of the industry we all care so much about”.

James E McKeever Scholarship – Awarded to to Ashley Marshall of Augusta, West Virginia, daughter of chapter member Jason Marshall. Ashley has achieved the highest academic standing three times on the President’s List at Fairmont State University, where she is currently majoring in Exercise Science.  Ashley is passionate about a career in Occupational Therapy, and is driven to succeed in completing her post-graduate work in this field during the upcoming years.

Bill Ramsey Scholarship – Awarded to Jennifer DiFonzo of Hagerstown, Maryland, wife of chapter member Mark DiFonzo.  She is pursuing a masters degree in the Strategic Communications Graduate Program at the University of Maryland Global Campus while nurturing her family as wife and mother, and working as an editor, writer and proofreader for two companies.  Jennifer hopes that in earning her masters she will be able to advance in her positions with those companies, and to expand her knowledge and skill sets for future opportunities.

On behalf of the committee, we extend our hearty congratulations to these recipients! We thank all of those worthy individuals who applied, and encourage those applicants to look forward to next year.

Sincerely,
