FMCSA extends expired CDL, CLP, and medical certificate waiver through September.

What the Extension Means

The FMCSA has extended an existing waiver that gives CDL drivers additional time to renew their expired CDL’s and medical certificates due to the COVID-19 closures that affected DMV’s and medical practitioners nationwide.

CDL drivers now have until September 30, 2020 to renew any licenses that expired on or after March 1, 2020. This also extends Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP) holders extending the validity period without requiring them to retake the general knowledge or endorsement tests. This applies to all States, CDL holders, CLP holders and interstate non-CDL commercial vehicle drivers

TSA security checks (fingerprinting) that are performed in conjunction with your HM endorsement have been extended 180 days. However, individual state DMV’s have the option to extend “…up yo 180 days”. WV CDL holders that are required to get fingerprinting at a TSA-approved facility will find that, at the time of this article, the nearest location is Alexandria, VA. The Berkeley Springs location is still closed.
